Issues Sending Email...

Here's the issue in a nutshell. At least one of the smtp.att.yahoo.com servers has incorrectly installed SSL certificates. This means when an attempt is made to verify the connection (since it is supposed to be a secure connection) the certificate check fails. The problem is sporadic, which probably means that there is more than one smtp server behind smtp.att.yahoo.com, and at least one of them is set up correctly and the certificate checks pass. Bottom line: ATT has to fix their server(s) to send valid certificate information.

Incoming email server still down since 8/28/13. Spoke again to customer service last night. Was informed that the problem has gone to Tier 3 (Server Team) support. Still no date as to when they expect the ongoing problem to be resolved.

Apparently, part of the problem is that they are rolling over to new servers, as well. I still had pop and smtp.att.yahoo.com as my server settings, and was told by the support person that my settings were supposed to be inbound and outbound.att.net. When they talked about their change in services months back, they claimed that end users would NOT need to change their settings. That has apparently changed. So, I am going to need to change all of my banking and online business to my gmail account. What a pain!

It has started working again. Unsure of what to do regarding leaning on such a flaky service as my main email account. Gmail has never failed me.

Att is useless

consistent problems with attglobal.net email service; past two-plus months include inability to log-in or log-in failures and sending of email disasters. tech says system is over capacity and additional new servers are on the way. however this does not explain why sending email often results in some emails being delivered to users' spam folders, or not being delivered at all or being bounced back or...gmail addressees generally find my email in their spam folders, comcast users have no problem at all, in august on two different days all my emails came back as undeliverable. then again, later, it was only aol and gmail with problems...asmtp or authentication or hacking issues? finding lots of spam with .ru (russia) extensions appearing to originate within ATT domain. Lots of pings from within ATT domains - compromised network issues? Manila outsourced support worth than useless or maybe root cause of problems??

My experience with the help desk is the same as yours. He wanted to remote into my machine. No! In all likelihood I have been using computers (and possibly email) longer than he has been on the planet. Only when I inquired as to whether the problem might be at THEIR end did he check. While my ATT email is working at the moment, I am moving all of my business email to a gmail account. Enough is enough.

I have forwarded all my incoming email to a second email account I maintain (NOT ATT!) and have stopped sending outbound or forwarded emails thru the ATT system. Internet reports of ATT tech problems in the past two years are eye-opening and troublesome for a company which used to represent good customer value and ethics. If the members of the board thought they could save money by outsourcing, I think they may now be regretting their decision. The recently released survey list of the worst in customer service has ATT at the top. The fact that most telecommunications services are no longer supervised by the state or federal public utilities and telecom commissions may be one reason why they seem to be getting away with all this. And we suffer. I feel like I am living back in a third world country! Time to go back to the USPS and buy stamps!

was this problem resolved? Often mail (it appears mostly to gmail and Yahoo)  from my attglobal accoutn via thunderbird just do not get delivered

Jake, I completely agree. The only service that I have found to be worse is Office365. The university where I work is migrating from an in house Exchange server to having our email hosted on Office365. What a debacle! Office365 does not appear to fully IMAP compliant, and the damn thing goes down regularly. Two months after the s!*t hit the fan, they sent a team to address our grievances. At one point, I had five MS engineers in my cubicle looking over my shoulder as I demonstrated the problems I was having. NOT ONE OF THEM HAD EVER TESTED THEIR PLATFORM USING THUNDERBIRD! Back on topic, I am shifting all of my personal email to GMail, unless you can recommend something better. I am definitely open to suggestions.

Cannot receive incoming E-mails. Server down???? After verifying user ID and password still cannot receive from server. Whats up???

My account somehow suspended during their current upgrade. As of 10am EST today, I've been told the upgrade is still in process and they can't even reactivate it while the servers are down. Completion estimated before EOB today. Not sure a move to gmail is the answer, since that has gone done extended in the past (although a year or two ago). AT&T was once as big as Google in this arena, so there is no reason to assume Google can't decline like AT&T has. I have no desire to update 100s of service contacts from attglobal to gmail and then have to do it again later. There has got to be a better answer. How about portability of email addresses just like phone numbers?
jake on
Portability probably won't work as the extensions are corporate property, like att, yahoo, etc. unlike phone numbers which are just numbers... Where we missed out was in not getting the USPostalService to develop a secure, (heck-yes I would pay for this service), email system which would have allowed us an email system with some reliability. If I had to pay a few cents for email which I knew would arrive safely, with no spam or infections attached, it would be worth it. Businesses such as financial institutions are now climbing the walls because they have no idea if monthly statements, trading confirmations, etc, are actually being received by their customers and customers have no idea which emails and statements might have gone missing. This issue with ATT is scary since they seem to be unable, after several months, to fix the problems and I am beginning to wonder if they even know what the problems are, or if their outsourced engineering groups are willing to admit how much they have bungled over the past few years. The SVP of tech for ATT should be fired! Accountability should be mandated. I'm thinking of going to small claims court and filing a claim for the lost business I've experienced. And bill them for my labor time to work around their lack of "warrant of usability" in a product they SELL us...

Associates are telling me that emails to me are being rejected as "mailbox full". Trying to access my account to clear my mailbox but am told that this service is not available.......so I'm stuck with no email service from AT&Tglobal. This is now 5 days. I ASSUME they're not going to charge me for their service this month??? Customer service just says be patient!..They don't have an estimated time of system being up again. Is this a major take down that they don't want to speak about??

An old idm.net user,  have had years of good service from attglobal.net - but since 5 Sept 13 have lost my 30-odd daily inbox emails.

Worse, there seems to be no way to phone or email supervisors, managers or directors about the continuing silence.

I need those 600-odd emails.  Any idea or hint of help would be very welcome.
