Well, actually, the USPS isn't run by the government. It used to be, but now it's sort of a semi-private corporate entity that has some government oversight. Where things really got fouled up is when President George W. Bush decided to screw the Postal Service by mandating that they pre-fund 75 years worth of employee health benefits in a 10 year period... something that NO other agency or corporation has been mandated to do.
