Mike on
Same here I double checked my network connection and it is fine but netflix will not work
Elizabeth on
I am having the same problem as well and it's really really frustrating. Considering other apps are working internet and everything
Rennan on
Same problem, Netflix can't seem to find my internet connection. All other apps still work properly. This might be due to the new user interface downloaded.
John on
Your device may not be connected to the Internet. Please make sure your connection is working and try again. Code: nw-1-19 fix this so I can watch Dexter
chris on
Same thing in great barrington MA
Kirk on
same issue here... PS3 app works but xbox is not. giving this error code NW-1-19. Rochester New York
Houston on
Same exact problem, my internet is just fine, but netflix won't work.
Patrick on
Same issue, same code. WTF?
Ben on
Same code for me. This is happing to everyone, and it all seems to be happening today. hmm
Alberto Gonzalez on
Im experiencing the problem both on my Xbox 360 and PS3.
Patrick on
Netflix support page says the code is related to DNS settings https://support.netflix.com/en/node/12233 My DNS settings were already set to automatic, but I just selected automatic again, rebooted the Xbox, and then Netflix worked. Try it.
Nick on
I tried this, too. Also was set to Automatic already. I noticed on Xbox that the Netflix app icon says "Download the latest app" or something to that effect. But deleting and/or re-downloading the app doesn't seem to work.
Amber on
I have my DNS on automatic. This is not the problem.
Amber on
Forgot to say that I did redo the settings as well. Twice. Still no change. And, it is only doing this on the xbox 360.
Shayne on
Looked up errors, deleted and re-downloaded on 360, nothing.
Julie on
Not working for me either.
mek on
yep same here.. netflix please get your isn together.. signed, annoyed in new orleans
crawl on
I have been receiving the same error message. Last night I contacted netflix and amber with customer service said she contacted her "engineers". She assured me that it would be up and running in no time at all. Well it wasnt and still has yet to work. Contacted them again today and the guy told me that their research team is aware of this problem and they are working on a fix for it. He said it may be a few days...What kind of customer service is this? You release a update with minimal testing and expect your paying customers to just sit tight?!?
Alberto Gonzalez on
I was able to solve the problem at least on my PS3 by performing the following: Deleting the Netflix app and the Netflix data in the game data utility section section on the home screen. Reinstalled the app, then when it said that it needed to update, select ok but then when it shows ok a second time, just cancel. You may need to sign in again. Will try to do the same on the Xbox360.
Tyler J on
You are so amazing Alberto thank you a thousand times man.
nicole gerrard on

thank you so much, been so annoying with the so called help xboxlive and netflix give. glad I got it working finally

Chris on
https://support.netflix.com/en/node/194 Notice when you run the connection test for XBox Live connection, your getting the message about being able to connect, but being limited.
Alberto Gonzalez on
Well, I manually configured the XBOX's Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and the Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4 and the problem disappeared. Do not know if this could interfere with anything else, but so far everything is working fine. Hope this helps.
Patrick on
Yahtzee! Thanks Alberto! Nice work around.
Maria on
Nice! This worked - thank you!!!
Nick on
Yes!!! Thank you!
jamen on

I have been on chat and calls with Netflix tech support for the past four nights because of whatever this stupid problem is. I've reset the xbox, refreshed the router, deactivated Netflix, deleted the app and all associated content and reinstalled, and tried about half a dozen other things that the Netflix people have ASSURED me will work... they didn't. Today, they had me hard-wire the damn xbox to the modem and bypass the router. Well, the hard-wire worked, but as soon as I switched back to wireless, I got the same error... so then they told me my router was the problem and I either needed a new one or to complete reset this one. I was getting ready to pull my entire desktop system into my bedroom so I could re-set up my entire home network (once I reset the Linksys router)... and I found this AWESOME post! IT WORKED!!!! And I am having no problems at all. I still don't think Netflix has it figured out though... Alberto should be running their tech department!
DavidandRache on
My daughter wanted me to tell you that "you rock!!!"
John on
It worked thank you
Rita on
Thanks Alberto! So glad I googled my question after sitting on the phone with useless Netflix techs. I'm no techie but your directions were flawless!
Maria on
Alberto, you are a genius! I've called Netflix and did everything they told me to do, TWICE. Then I called XBox and did everything else they told me to do, TWICE. I even did everything backwards, TWICE. XBox's last "troubleshoot method" was to call Netflix back and tell them nothing was working, and to give me a refund and freeze my account until the issue subsides. (Really?) So I called Netflix back, and they told me that Netflix doesn't make the apps for the XBox... the manufacturer does. Therefore, XBox is responsible for the app's functionability (Really?) I even asked both Netflix and XBox if other customers were having the same issue recently, and both have told me "no." After that I felt like a special case, and that I was doomed never to watch Netflix on my XBox again... And then I found this site, and saw that lots of other people were having the same issue. If any of my other friends have the same problem, I'm going to call this the "Alberto Gonzalez Method." Thanks dude, you're awesome for sharing this!!
Alex on
Dude you are the king.
carmen on
thank you alberto!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much. Just saved my remotes from paint. I'm painting my living room and like using Netflix on my tv for the voice commands so I don't Gget paint on the remotes.

Reboot the Xbox. Worked for me.
BruceandRachel on
I was having the same problem with Netflix on my XBox 360. Called Netflix support and could not really help us. I am so glad that we found these comments and especially from Alberto! It worked to change the DNS to manual and changed the settings. Thank you! You are a lifesaver. So happy in UT!
Kevin on
You are a king among men Alberto! Worked for us too. Thanks a ton.
Kds on
Alberto, you rock my world. Netflix has been such a b!*#h lately. I never would have known to change those settings on my own. Hunger Games is up and running. Thanks!
el.dente on
I just figured this out on my own. Ended up calling my ISP and getting my current DNS settings and entering them under the manual setting on my 360 and everything worked immediately. Looks like Alberto beat me by about 30 hours. :( I would recommend entering your actual DNS settings as I have. I can't understand how 8.8.8.8 works but like he said it might interfere with other things whereas your actual settings should not.
el.dente on
I should have said I called my ISP and verified that my DNS settings were up to date. You can find your DNS settings on your computer by opening Networks in Control Panel, finding your connection, (possibly right-clicking on the connection) clicking Status and then Details. Your primary and secondary DNS are listed under 192.168.x.x
Kds on
Since the laptop and ipad work fine, I'll go check those DNS settings. Thanks!
Taz on
OMG I've been so pissed all week.. we don't have cable or satellite TV so Netflix being down with two kids was NOT FUN. The manual DNS setting fix worked here too! Wish I had found this sooner.
Dane on
Wow life saver!!!!! Thanks man
Nathan on
Interesting, really frustrated. I too have the same problem. Uninstalled and cleared the cache. Turned xbox off, back on, re-installed and same error. Then, found this link and Alberto's solution. Tried it and did not work. Funny that everyone else was successful since the xbox would not allow his DNS format. Guess i'm doing it wrong. Anyway, got the true DNS settings from my laptop, put those in and still.....same result. Any clearer instructions for me to try? It's quite maddening to hear everyone report that it worked when, in my case, my 4 yr old son is shooting me the puss-in-boots eyes.
Nellie on
Thanks Alberto, you're a genius!
Rob on
Netflix and Xbox customer services both had me do all that. The DNS change, clearing memory, even unplug Xbox and removed hard drive... nothing works completely. It starts up one of every 60 attempts but never twice in a row.
Sarah on
Alberto, my hero!!! You did what Xbox, Netflix, and my internet provider could not do.
Staci P. on
Alberto is a friggin' genius. He instantly ended the household upheaval we've been experiencing for a week!! Thank you, sir!!!
ben on
Alberto way to be playa
Bob on
Alberto, marry me?
David Wayne Ryan on
Worked, Thanks Al. How did you know that would work?
Jester323 on
When I didnt not use my router netflix worked but to unplug the router ever times is a pain. And would mean that my other devices would not work.
Daggs on
Code Error: NW 1-19....Same thing is happening here when I run it through Xbox (Netflix works just fine on the computer). All other apps work just fine on the box, so it's not a connection problem. Spent nearly 4 hrs on the phone with Netflix and Xbox and nobody's been able to figure it out. Everyone has, however, determined that it's a Netflix problem C'mon Netflix, it's been 6 days!
j0nny5 on
For the curious: DNS stands for Domain Name Service/Server. That will be important in a moment. All locations on the internet are addressed with a special number, called an IP address (Internet Protocol). It looks like this: 123.123.123.123 - it has 4 "sections" called "octets" (because each "octet" consists of 8 bits, but that's a much deeper explanation that I can add if anyone cares). These numbers are unique when it comes to public addresses, such as Netflix streaming server facilities (where the media you watch is stored). Here's where this particular problem comes into play: most of locations on the internet also have a Name associated with them, like netflix.com, or google.com. This is because people are way better at remembering words than they are at long numbers. However, traffic flying around the intertubes still gets routed by the destination number, not the name. So, we need special servers that keep a long list of names that translate to addresses. These are DNS servers. Usually, your ISP (the company that provides your internet service, for example FiOS or Comcast etc.) maintains its own DNS servers near its "gateways" or the special computer(s) between you and the rest of the Internet. These servers must be updated all the time, because sometimes IP addresses (the numbers) change. Let's say you are the owner joesmith.com. Maybe joesmith, com translates to 123.231.213.321, because that is the number your ISP assigned to you, and you are hosting (serving) your website from your location. Let's say you decide to go with a different ISP, who has a different range of numbers. Now, your server's address is no longer 123.231.213.321, but instead, it's now 222.111.213.213. It's still joesmith.com, but people's computers throughout the world don't KNOW how to get there! So, the DNS server asks for refreshed information from another DNS server, which does the same thing, over and over. When joesmith.com no longer works at 123.231.213.321, it will ask a sort of "master" DNS server that checks for changes. If no changes are found, it drops joesmith.com from its list. If there's an update (sort of like, JOESMITH.COM IS NOW AT 222.111.213.213), it will change the listing. So, long story short, whatever the URL that your XBox uses to get to Netflix (say, xbox.netflix.com or something like that), somehow got DROPPED from your ISPs DNS servers, and didn't know where to go. Alberto's suggestion to change your DNS settings 8.8.8.8 and 8.4.4.4 works because those are the addresses to GOOGLE'S public DNS servers, which update much more quickly than your ISP's DNS servers probably do, maybe because they are closer to the internet's "backbone", or update with greater frequency. Now, you're using Google's servers to resolve your names. When your ISP's DNS servers update, your original settings will work. Let me know if anyone has any questions or is interested in more info :)

I got the same error message? I am Also, noticing the same error message, when attempting to access Neflix content from th XBOX360. DNS settings on the XBOX sre set to "AUTOMATIC". Rumors circulating about a Silverlight update from Microsoft is the root cause. If so, has an emergerncy roll back been planned?

Carlos on

Ok, I followed the thread in regards to the DNS information missing... It turns out thatt he ISP changed the DNS. To correct the problem I went to the Network settings section in the XBOX and updated the DNS server information... Thx everybody
