I found this page a few minutes ago when searching on this same problem ... Lycos is having problems with their mail system, and it was still down at the time I posted this reply.

The Lycos mail system just came back up. I was able to log in, but the status page I linked to has not been updated. Not sure yet if it will be a good link to check for mail system status in future; will keep that in mind next time there is a problem.

I receive emails to my outlook but have not been able to send email from my outook last few days. When I tried to login using lycos web page, I got a message stating some kine of abuse and my accound need to be verified manually. " click here", no place I could click. I am a primume user and I paid for it....

have submitted multiple tickets; made multiple calls; even attempted to send msg to support via yahoo mail...

me too, started on 10/14, still no unlock or response....... anyone able to resolve this????? i am also a paid user..... I have not been able to access my mail account. I get a message that my password and user name do not match. I haven't changed either. I could access my mail account yesterday morning 1/21/2014. Yesterday evening, 1 /21/14, I could not. Today 1/22/14, I still can not access my account. Have you been hacked again?
What solution is there?

I sometimes get that when I don't usse the correct upper/lower case for part of the password. Try again, typing slower {works for me, might not for you}.
If that doesn't work, you can go through the password recovery / reset procedure ... a link will be emailed to you that would let you rest your password {or in some cases , tell you what your current password is}.
I've had to do that twice recently for accounts I had not used much since I changed the password.
If your account had been hacked, the password recovery / reset procedure will give control back to you.
I get an "unsafe" message when I try to access my email account. If I override this, I get a blank screen and error message so I cannot access my email. Please help.
