This started for me 2 days ago with warnings that my account (like yours, dating back to mid '90's) may have been hacked and then not letting me access it to change password. Phoned number it gave, which will have cost a fortune as I'm not in the US, and was told that they (security people) could not access my account and given another number to ring....and they gave me yet another one. The last two numbers offered no help at all but all three offered me sympathy and understanding...which was unhelpful and frankly, insincere.

Tried again yesterday and was told to change the password and this time it did offer to email me a link to my alternative address, but of course it didn't - and still hasn't - turn(ed) up.

Rang number again and whilst offering sympathy the rep I spoke to said there might be a delay if the server was overloaded....so I asked him if it was and couldn't get a straight answer. Eventually he admitted that there were problems with all the servers and he had no idea when - or indeed if - they would be up and running normally.

I couldn't help asking if this was connected with the news that the US is monitoring everyone's metadata, wherever in the world they are... but the irony was lost on him.
