Card declined at Walmart store for groceries. Money is on the card

Tried to buy groceries last night, card was declined at checkout, even though we had enough money available in the card.  Just tried again ,30 minutes ago, same thing happened, card was declined twice at checkout at Walmart even though we have money on the card. What is going on?
