The Mailchimp email service is completely unavailable in parts of the US. According to Mailchimp's status webpage, they are currently under a denial of service attack and they are working to restore it asap. A DOS attack typically means no data is lost or stolen, but is just a temporary attack to block traffic.

Just an update. We have not been able to log onto mailchimp for over 4-houts now. They say it's a denial of service attack, it definately is. Going to create an new account on aweber. Mailchimp, the last 5 years have been great, moving to a service that delivers now. Bye!!

but aweber was down since monday because of the same type of attack, and they took longer to recover.

Check your facts before posting.

I'm moving from Aweber to mailchimp but not for reasons related to this discussion

Thought I'd chime in here. I'm the social media manager at AWeber. To clarify, unlike Mailchimp, AWeber experienced two separate DDoS attacks - one on Monday and one on Tuesday - which is why we were down for a longer period of time. However, we have implemented changes to help minimize the risk of future attacks. If you'd like updates on our status, you can check out our status page at http://status.aweber.com.
