Turns out this has to do with the Virginia Server farm, which handles VOIP and Exchange. Apparently the problem was found and everything that was faulty has been replaced. The new system is being rebooted and is currently sending out emails that were stored in cache. Hopefully we should be seeing results soon....

turns out this site runs on west coast time, so it wasn't that long ago. but still. other reports I'm hearing is that its a cisco problem, edge router config is screwed. no ETA from cisco.
