Why don't these companies have a standard screen to put up when we can't get access that says that "yes, we know we have a problem and we're working on it.  We anticipate being back up by such and such a time".  Or, perhaps "yes, we know... on it.  We are unsure as to when we'll be back online."  At least that way, we'd know it's not just us!  But, God forbid they do something to inform their customers.
