Cannot log into account

I have tried logging into the American Express website using both my PC and the mobile app so I can pay my bill but in both instances it states the system is down.   My payment was due yesterday but I am unable to make the payment and should not be charged a late fee. I have been a customer for 26 years and have never had this problem before.
