After many days of calling and waiting on hold for someone at Netflix, today I called and they have a message that says to press the control key and hit F5. I had to do it a couple of times but it does work. Meanwhile I am still on hold for someone to ask what kind of compensation will they provide for not being able to use a service for which I have paid.

I actually managed to get through to customer service and, after dealing with one rude dismissive jerk, got to talk to someone who helped. Going into the browser privacy settings & emptying the cache solved the problem.
