Clicking on the envelop icon only throws you back to the same page.

Same here. Just opens up duplicate page in another tab. Even at its best, Comcast email is slow and unreliable, and sometimes spontaneously erases archived messages. And the app often doesn't load new emails on my smartphone. But this is just ridiculous.
Can't get into my xfinity/Comcast email. This isn't the first time. Seems to be happening more often since the beginning of the year. No problems with other websites. Rebooted my PC several times. I can get into gmail and into all my regularly used web sites. WHAT GIVES? This isn't my first comment regarding the "New" Xfinity website. I see MANY other comments with the same complaint. Whatever you did, it's NOT a good move! I am an IT person, I work with other IT programmers. The code is simply poorly compiled or obviously NOT tested properly before releasing to the general public. I'm seriously considering going back to CenturyLink. Jim King
