Plays 1-3 songs, goes silent for an hour, then plays again briefly, etc.

I often put pandora on to help my kids get to sleep. I have it running on my Surface Pro (Windows 8) without any related extensions eneabled. It plays up to 3 songs (but usually just 1) when I first put it on. But then it goes silent for at least a half hour (usisally an hour or more) before it suddenly starts playing again (usally just a single track). I even tried the "trial upgrade" to Padora One, but it made no difference. Why the heck would anyone pay for such a crappy service? If they can't make money without screwong up the service, they souldn't be in business. Sell it to a mashup developer and get out.
