Firefox web browser suggesting the site is not encrypted

The web site amazon.com I acccessed in Firefox allowed me to log in. I saw my orders but once I started to browse for the merchandise, it was giving the same error message - "we are working on the problem and expect to resolve it shortly". From that point on I was stuck, and was unable to do anything on the web site, even to log out from my account. Concerned for identity compromise. I wish amazon would issue some explanation about what is going on.
