Phone calls are incomprehensible

For the past 12 hours I have been unable to make calls outgoing from my and my husband's cell phone using AT&T. The call goes through but it is so broken up and full of interference that I cannot understand anything the other person is saying. If I receive phone calls everything is fine and goes through perfectly clear. What's going on?
