on mac laptop, att's "new" mail appeared overnight thursday, worked fine. but on mac desktop, slightly older, the same symptoms described above: loads inbox but nothing opens (screen goes blank), cannot operate any "button". eventually "basic mail" option is offered and works normally, but it is indeed old basic mail. the att "fix it" tools "quit unexpectedly" 20 times at least. i have not tried "chat" because stress level too high. thinking very bad thoughts about att just now.
