can not receive or send emails

I can not send emails nor receive emails for the past few days- What is going on??? I have a bellsouth email. Called AT&T and they told me they know there is a problem and are working on it. They said it should be fixed by 10 p.m. tonight - really??? You said that yesterday......please get his resolved - it is causing problems for many people now.
