att.net sucks!

For the past several months, I frequently have periods when I cannot send email messages and receive error mesages that say I cannot connect to the server and that att.net is offline.  Eventually the email mesages go out.  I also sometimes send mesages and they simply disappear--do not show up in my MacMail Sent file, and I don't know if they were sent or just disapperared.  Twice I have contacted the service dept and they spent considerable time fiddling with settings--only to have the same problems return with days or even hours.  I checked with my Apple Store, and they made it clear that the problem was not my Mac, which sets the right settings automatically.  They indicated that many Mac users have had problems starting with changes to the setup by Yahoo last fall, that att.net has special security measures that cause difficulty becuase so many att.net accounts get hacked, and that the server is frequently overloaded and hence "down," and taht slowness of use is related.  I have no reason to disbelieve them, based on my experience--or theirs.  So what gives, ATT?  Continuing with this service at all is becoming problematic.
