Unable to Login after parts of the site went down May 6, 2013

I was attempting to shop on Amazon in the early evening on Monday, May 6, 2013 when parts of the site suddenly went down. Then, when I tried to login to my account, the site refused to accept a password, and it's still not recognizing passwords. . . . This has been the third episode in the past two weeks. What's going on?
