Cannot put anything into cart. Site down for 2 days.

I cannot put anything into the cart!  I get a message for the last 2 days that says "an error happened" and "try again later".  I have tried numerous times over the last 2 days to place my order but it always says the same thing.  Why have a site if it is dysfunctional?  Please fix.
