Unable to update profile phone number

Attempting to update profile information to apply for a position, the Applicant Cockpit screen states "Please enter phone number in correct format".  Even when entering the phone number as shown in the example, it will not accept it.  

Primary phone number is a required field. Phone numbers must be entered using the following format 123-456-7890.
