I received the same error today (1/3/2012) and when I did a chat with a service rep. I was told that I hit the "Add to Cart" button too many times. That was a joke and did not happen. He suggested removing the item from the chart and trying again. I did that and got the same message. He then said that "gee the error must be on our side then" and advised me to call the 800 number to place my order. This is totally unacceptable from a major retailer like Home Depot. This error refers to a system problem on their site. They didn't even tell me if they were going to refer the problem to Tier II support for resolution. I guess that it will mysteriously disappear at some.
