FYI: Just got off phone with B of A regarding ShopSafe. Nice surprise: There is a lifetime limit where you're only allowed to create 500 temporary cards using ShopSafe. Once you hit that point, you can't create any new cards at all. And they're not making exceptions so, if you mainly use ShopSafe and have hit that limit -- you'll see a bogus message about an update in progress (pure BS) -- you might as well close your card because you won't be using ShopSafe anymore. They'll give you a BS excuse that you can still use your open ones but each card can only be used by one merchant so how the hell does that help you going forward???

Had the same problem for the past two days when I tried to create a new card -- kept getting the "update" message. Did a query via online chat. The rep told me that once you've created 20 ShopSafe numbers you can't create any more. They're basically discontinuing ShopSafe because so many people now use PayPal, virtual wallets, or other payment methods. I replied that (1) I doubted that I had yet used 20 numbers, (2) many merchants, such as Amazon, don't accept PayPal and require a credit card number, and (3), it was unfair of BOA not to have informed their customers of the ShopSafe limit. There's certainly no mention of it on their website. I added that I was going to cancel my credit card account snce ShopSafe was the main reason I used it. Perhaps if enough people complain they'll change their policy.

This is extremely poor customer service. Loyal clients deserve better treatment. So NOW I know their "policy," which I think is just an excuse to close it down for the their own reasons. I've been a BoA MC cardholder for at least 20 years. There are other, better, options available and I plan to use them. I, too, plan to cancel my credit card account.
