usps intercept payment system down

trying to intercept package , it reach last step for payment but gives me error says " We are sorry but, your tracking number does not have sufficient information to intercept. Please try a different tracking number. (104) "

I get the same error. How did you ship it? I shipped first class.

I'm getting the same error too and I need this returned to sender. I live in an apartment so it's not like I can wait at the mailbox everyday to see if it's being delivered to tell them to return it to the sender

I'm also having the same problem with a fraud chargeback on paypal, i've read online you can go into your local PO and do it in person which im going to do today and it's like $11.50 to get it back. $30 down the drain for shipping smh. Also stressing the fact the last step gives me an error online which they should've fixed 8 days ago but still going on. thank god i shipped standard...

I am getting this message too, and we are into 2015 now. I'm so glad that our government is on top of things. I went into the post office and they told me I had to do in online. By the time I got home and received this error message, the post office was closed. What do i do?

I know the feeling, luckily my local usps office was nice enough to help me but it wasn't any use. 1. They do not allow interceptions for packages that aren't priority so if you did standard shipping it is unavailable now and they have no idea why. 2. If you did ship on priority you might be in luck if you catch it on time. Even though I paid the interception fee when WAY before it arrived to the post office of the buyer they still "forgot" and delivered it to the man anyway. Luckily the guy paid after threatening him I'd call the cops. I also got my refund for the interception that didnt even happen... Hope this helps, remember priority is a 75% chance, standard... According to their documentation on Package Intercept dated May 2015 the Intercept service is available for "All domestic mail classes except Standard Mail and Periodicals" that have a tracking number. So I don't know why they'd say it is for only priority. On the site they ask for the tracking up front to begin the Intercept request process. It goes through fine until the payment screen. If there was a true issue with the tracking number it would seem they'd give you an error when the number is first entered not all the way at the last step before payment. Something is very wrong.

I just had to comment on here even though I usually don't, just because you are wrong and do not know what you are talking about.  Do some research.  The US Postal service IS a government agency.  It is NOT a private business.  It is US Government.  Period.

It's both, actually. Technically, the USPS is a business comissioned by the federal government. It doesn't depend on federal funding, but is tied down by government regulations.

The USPS is often mistaken for a government-owned corporation (e.g., Amtrak) because it operates much like a business. It is, however, an "establishment of the executive branch of the Government of the United States", (39 U.S.C. § 201) as it is controlled by Presidential appointees and the Postmaster General.

Same error. Spent two hours on hold trying to get to USPS.com tech support.They couldnt help me either.

It is now February 2016 - I got the same error code as all of you that have left comments.  The website is useless.  I have an express corporate

account.  Have had it for a long long time - years.  Old computer addage - GIGO - I would say ya - garbage - in/garbage - out.  I will state

that the woman I spoke with was extremely nice.  Wish sometimes that humans did more and computer assistance would go away.  The kicker

is when she called the destination post office she told me the same thing happened last night to another person.  They had same error code.

I hope she really did speak with that office and didn't just put me on hold since this appears to be a continious problem since the first comment I see was from 2014!!!!!

I am having this issue also. When you call customer service they use the same website that I am using and get the error message.

Customer service is useless in this case. I couldn't even get them to agree that this situation needed to be dealt with.

I have tried to get to someone that can fix this issue. I have a case number, have had customer service forward my complaint to management with no luck.

I use a 3rd party service to print my postage. I call them and they have bulletins from USPS stating that package intercept is available to all of there costumer's. I mention this to USPS and they say that its the 3rd parties fault. USPS also says that the 3rd party is the one that generates the tracking number.Thats  a big lie or the are just not informed

I am extremely frustrated.  May 2016 and getting the same error message!  Tried calling post offices and USPS.  They suggested I call IT and state they there is nothing that they can do over the phone. I originally called right after the package was picked up from my house, before it had been shipped out of my local post office!  This is an expensive product and I can't afford for it to fall into the wrong hands and have someone else keep the item.  I accidentally shipped the item to a previous customer with a similar name to the customer I was supposed to ship it to. What am I supposed to do next?

May 25, 2016.  Right after I mailed my item I realized I made a mistake.  I went to the website and keep getting the same error.  "We are sorry but, your tracking number does not have sufficient information to intercept".  Called USPS and spoke to two different outsourced to India people.  After going step by step she said she will write a report and get back to me.  Which sucks more the USPS outsourcing customer service calls or the inability to fix website problem for years?

420 of 2018 checking in. Package still at post office in Washington, on its way to Oklahoma for me. Can't change address or have it held at a post office to pick up. Absolutely absurd.

It is now 2019 and this is still an issue. I used Mercari.com to order a package. When I placed and confirmed my order I set it to be sent to my apartment. After finishing up and confirming my order I realized that the app had reverted my current address to one of my prior address options. In an attempt to regain my package without having to cancel my order I put my mail to that address on hold and tried to do a package intercept immediately and constantly recieved this message. On Friday I began calling the USPS help line, after waiting for over an hour and getting nowhere I decided to try again later. On Saturday after completing 8 calls to try and find the proper menu item sequence and waiting 2 hours to talk to a rep I was told to wait and see if i could get anything done when the package arrived to its next postal center. Sunday, the package arrived to its next postal center, I couldnt tell if the mail hold was being inacted at all but I tried the website again and this message returned each time without fail and as we all know... no customer service reps on Sundays and the automated hoe is no help. Monday came so I woke up at 7:20 and sat with my phone in hand so that when 8:00 hit I could be one of the first people to talk to a rep problem is this Monday is MLK Day and no one was there to answer. Today is now Tuesday and if this hold doesnt work even tho I got the confirmation email my mail is going to whoever lives at my old address. Please send prayers bc USPS has fell through 9 out of 10 times so far and I'm just praying that this hold is actually active

I use hold for pickup intercept fairly regularly with success, but am now suddenly getting that same message on ALL attempts I've made

November 2020 people!!!! Having the same issue. 6 years have past. SIX years and it is still an issue.
