Meter Label Solution - seamless upgrade from Click N Ship? Don't think so...

Called yesterday and after 45 minutes of being on hold, got a level 1 tech support rep.  Went through the basic stuff and he advised a level 2 tech would get back to me.  Received a generic email from the support mailbox stating:

Please accept my apologies for the frustration you are experiencing our recent update to USPS Meter Label Solution. Our Developers are aware of the technical issues that occurred and working to correct them as soon as possible. 

There's been no update today and I've already put in for a call back as the call-in queue was over an hour long!

I called Monday (April 27) and put my name in cue, I was told "More than an Hour Wait".

Now it is Tuesday afternoon and still no call back.

After 36 hours, USPS (India) called back. I was getting error

"Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation"

This is fixed by closing the program, right clicking on the Icon and choosing properties.

then choose compatibility and check the box, run as Administrator. Click OK and restart the program.

Oh my gosh!! Thank you for posting this! I have been freaking out all day, trying to figure out what to do. The post office really should be sending out an email to us all either giving this fix or with a new update to the software. I can't imagine how many people this must be affecting.

Brien, YOU ARE A GENIUS! Thank you so much! Like Deborah, I've been freaking out all day, couldn't get through to USPS, and had to send packages with the neon green traking labels on them. I can't believe it was that easy. Actually, I can. USPS should have fixed this by now. Anyway, THANKS again!

I hope this helps someone else and is the correct way to handle this.  This first version of the software is poorly designed and does not install properly as a non-administrative user.  Normally you can right-click and "Run as administrator" to install the program or install while logged in as the Administrator.  This should, but does not, work with this application.  After multipe iterations of failure installing the program as THE administrator and running AS administrator we found the solution:

1. Make the user that normally runs the software an administrator temporarily by adding them to the Administrators group on the PC.  No user these days should be running as Administrator or an equivalent because of malware threats.

2. Log in as the shipping program user (now administrator)

3. Uninstall the program

4. Install the program (Download link here: https://www.usps.com/business/business-shipping.htm)

5. Run the program and you should find your address book and shipping history intact

6. Remove the shipping user from the Administrators group on the PC

7. Log in as the shipping program user and be happy


Hopefully USPS updates the program to handle today's modern security model.

What about Windows 10 users?  There is no option for Windows 10, how will I process mail for our business now?
