Can't login or set up new account

My daughter wanted the app too but after installing neither of us could look at pins. I thought it was perhaps multiple ID issues so I tried to logout/login again (no joy), updated the app (no joy) then deleted and reinstalled but it won't let me re-create my account.
Please tell me I haven't wiped my account (and 500+ pins) - especially for nothing? If so and it was just because the site was down, can my pins be restored?
